Erskine is thrilled to share that the Royal Navy and Royal Marines Charity, and its supporting partner Greenwich Hospital, has awarded another incredible grant of £50,000 to Erskine. This grant will directly support our sector-leading care services for Navy and Marines beneficiaries living at The Erskine Home, Bishopton.
With this grant, the RNRMC has reached the truly special milestone of over £500,000 donated in total to support Erskine’s Veterans. Everyone at Erskine would like to sincerely thank the RNRMC and Greenwich Hospital for their outstanding regular support since 2011 which has helped our charity deliver the expert care services that Scotland’s Veteran community deserves.
Our staff at The Erskine Home, Bishopton continue to offer a unique blend of on-site enhanced care services for our elderly residents, most of whom live with dementia. This includes physiotherapy, speech and language therapy, our daily activities service and expert clinical input from our Advanced Nurse Practitioners and Clinical Nurse Specialist. Our Home’s enhanced care services are funded by voluntary income and rely on Erskine’s terrific regular supporters like the RNRMC and Greenwich Hospital.
The Erskine Home, Bishopton cares for many Navy and Marines Veterans such as Sandy Cormack. Sandy had a remarkable Forces career after being called up at the age of 19. He served as a Royal Marines Commando during World War Two, arriving with his unit in northern France just after D-Day and working up the coast to liberate civilians. Following his years in the Forces, Sandy was awarded the Légion d’Honneur for his service in Normandy. Sandy moved into Pearson House at The Erskine Home, Bishopton last year and is benefitting from the expert care funded by the RNRMC and Greenwich Hospital. Sandy is very active at the Home even as one of our most senior residents – he took part in his first physio gym session in January and completed the 14.4 mile Glasgow Kiltwalk ‘Big Stroll’ event in April!
Erskine’s Chief Executive, Ian Cumming, said: “We are delighted that the Royal Navy and Royal Marines Charity and Greenwich Hospital have chosen to make another fantastic grant in support of our Navy and Marines Veterans. The Erskine Home, Bishopton has returned to its usual busy and welcoming atmosphere following the main challenges of the pandemic. Our Home’s residents enjoy an excellent quality of life and benefit from high staff to resident ratios, specialist support teams and a homely, clean and stimulating environment. I am very pleased to congratulate the RNRMC on reaching the terrific milestone of £500,000 donated in support of our Navy and Marines beneficiaries – thank you so much for your exceptional support.”
Andrew Jameson, CEO of the RNRMC, said: “Erskine's unwavering support for Royal Navy and Royal Marines veterans and their family members over the years has been exceptional, and their commitment to delivering world class care is widely recognised across the sector.
The partnership between RNRMC and Erskine serves as a remarkable example of how cooperation, a beneficiary-first focus, and a shared vision can result in unparalleled support for veterans. Through this partnership, RNRMC and Erskine can ensure that veterans receive the support they need, including medical care, dementia care, rehabilitation services, accommodation, and emotional well-being.
The commitment of both RNRMC and Erskine to prioritise the welfare of veterans is evident in their shared vision. They recognise the sacrifices made by those who have served in the Royal Navy and Royal Marines and strive to provide them with the highest quality of care and support. We are proud to be funders of such an exceptional organisation.”
