Valentine's Day during World War II was celebrated differently than it is today. This special day took on a more sombre tone as many people were separated from their loved ones due to the war.
Many soldiers were fighting overseas, and those at home were dealing with rationing, air raids, and other hardships. Despite these challenges, people still found ways to celebrate Valentine’s Day and show their love and affection for each other.
It was a day to send cards, many with a military theme, to loved ones who were serving on the front lines, as well as to family members and friends who were back home. St Valentine’s day was a reminder that even in the darkest of times, love and hope could still be found.
