Erskine Veterans Charity enjoys Tattoo visit

Erskine Veterans Charity enjoys Tattoo visit

Scotland’s foremost carer of Veterans, the Erskine Veterans Charity, was treated to some real Scottish music yesterday! Residents at the charity’s Veteran Villages in Bishopton and Edinburgh were thoroughly entertained by fantastic shows performed by the Pipes and Drums of 1st Battalion Scots Guard and Drums and Pipes 1st Battalion Irish Guards.

Currently performing at the Royal Edinburgh Military Tattoo in Edinburgh the performers but found time in their busy schedule to visit Erskine residents. The musicians are all taking part in this year’s Show, “Journeys”. Performed on Edinburgh Castle’s iconic Esplanade between the 2nd – 24th August, “Journeys” will celebrate the journey of connection through music, dance, culture, and military traditions.

The residents at both homes were delighted to chat to the performers and Veterans Alex Bremner (88) and George Berry (93) even posed for a memento of the day.

Jessie Dewar (101) said “The show was fantastic, the music was so moving and there really isn’t anything like the pipes and drums,.”.

The 30-minute performances included favourites such as “The Skye Boat” song, Scottish Soldier and of course the much-loved favourite of the Veterans “Scotland The Brave”.

Erskine Chief Executive Ian Cumming said: “We are delighted to once again welcome performers from the Royal Edinburgh Tattoo.  Our residents look forward to their visit every year.  Not all our residents can make it along to the main show in Edinburgh and this visit ensures that no one who wishes to see the Tattoo is left out. As always, the performance was spectacular and left everyone with a smile on their face.”
