Erskine Veteran Cuts Ribbon at Ideal Home Show 2024

Erskine Veteran prepares for honour of opening Ideal Home Show Scotland

Stevie Wyllie, a proud member of Scotland’s foremost Veterans charity, Erskine, who served with the Army Catering Corps, has been fine-tuning his ribbon-cutting skills ahead of opening the Ideal Home Show on Friday, May 24.

This year, Erskine is pulling out all the stops with a special D-Day landing craft setup, complete with a beach, backdrop, hedgehog spikes, and military vehicles, all to mark the 80th anniversary of D-Day on June 6.

Reflecting on his service and the heroes of D-Day, Stevie said, “When you look back at what the veterans of 1944 did, not only on June 6 but in the days and weeks after, it really makes you think. I too experienced conflict while serving, and it’s never easy to remember. The bravery and sacrifices made by those who served during D-Day are beyond words. Having been through the Falklands conflict, I know how challenging and life-changing such experiences can be.”

Erskine has been the Ideal Home Show Scotland’s official charity partner since 2013, and this year is no different.

Jen Campbell, Erskine’s Events and Sponsorship Manager, said: “We are delighted once again to have such a significant role in the show. We are looking forward to welcoming visitors to our stand to hear about the fantastic work the charity does and to show off our amazing D-Day landing craft as we mark the 80th anniversary of D-Day and all who served during that momentous time in history.”

The show runs from Friday, May 24, to Monday, May 27, drawing thousands of visitors eager to see the fantastic array of stalls, masterclasses, and celebrities.

Stevie couldn’t be prouder. He said: “I am absolutely delighted to have been asked to open the show. It’s a very proud moment for me. This event not only celebrates innovation and creativity in home design but also honours the incredible sacrifices made by our armed forces. It’s a privilege to stand here, representing Erskine and all the veterans who have served our country. I hope my presence and our D-Day exhibit will inspire people to reflect on the past and appreciate the freedoms we enjoy today.”
