Erskine recognises 900 years of service.
Erskine Veterans Charity has recognised the commitment and dedication of staff and volunteers at an annual Long Service Awards ceremony.
The ceremony held in The Erskine Home in Bishopton, recognised long service to
Scotland’s largest Veterans’ charity, by both staff and volunteers. Chairman Stuart Aitkenhead presented the awards.
Amongst those members of staff receiving awards was Senior Care Assistant Heather Scanlan (56) from Erskine. Heather arrived at the Erskine Hospital 35 years ago, as it was then, not knowing if a career in care was what she wanted. She quickly decided it was and today Heather said: “I am extremely proud of the part I have played within Erskine. I love working for the charity and am glad I decided, all these years ago, to stay!”
Pauline McIntyre (52) Erskine Deputy Director of Care from Port Glasgow was extremely proud to be receiving her 20-year Long Service Award commenting “It has been an honour and privilege to care for residents and their families in Erskine. I am proud to lead and work with a caring compassionate team who give their all every single day. During the past twenty years, I have held five different senior nursing roles enhancing my own and others' knowledge and experience to best serve those that fought for our today.”
Caroline Gallagher (62) from Clydebank recalled how 30 years ago she started nightshift work on the Nightingale wards as a domestic, to fit in with family life. Now three decades later Caroline is a supervisor with grandchildren: “I will never forget all the wonderful characters that I met throughout the years.”
Also reflecting on her career with Erskine was Creative Marketing Officer: Krystyna Caulfield (41) from Dalry: “I have been at Erskine for 15 years now. The charity has progressed and developed over the years and my role has evolved with it. I have met some amazing people and had many wonderful experiences during my time as Creative Marketing Officer. Few people get to work for an organisation they feel passionate about.”
Erskine Chief Executive Ian Cumming said: “With 900 years of service the staff and volunteers receiving awards today are a true testament to the dedication of those who serve Erskine. Year after year they deliver the vital services needed to provide the highest standard of care and support to our Veterans. I feel fortunate and humbled to work with so many people who demonstrate such an incredible commitment to Erskine.”
