Dunfermline Veterans Cycle for Erskine

Military Veterans Cycle for Erskine Veterans

Veterans caring for Veterans was certainly the case when two Dunfermline members of a military Veterans group from retail giant Amazon took on a gruelling challenge for their comrades cared for by the Erskine Veterans Charity.

Veteran 3 SCOTS, The Black Watch, The Royal Regiment of Scotland, Robbie Crook and Veteran Royal Marine, Scott Chappell undertook a mammoth cycling challenge through the Cairngorms National Park to Fort George, a sizeable distance of some 170 miles.

Timing the grand finale of their challenge perfectly, Robbie and Scott arrived on Armed Forces Day at the home of 3 SCOTS Fort George.  Recognised as one of the most outstanding fortifications in Europe, built in the wake of the Battle of Culloden, this magnificent fort has served the British Army for the almost 250 years.

As the old saying goes “behind every good man…” in the case of Robbie and Scott it was a duo of good support, Veteran RAF Regiment Gary Burnett and Luscha Selfridge.

On behalf of the Veterans of Erskine, Community Fundraiser Jim Watret, was over the moon to accept the monies raised by Robbie and Scott, which amounted to the fantastic sum of £2628. Erskine offers care and support to Veterans within a Veterans Village in Bishopton and the Erskine Edinburgh care home in Gilmerton.

Jim said: “One of the key considerations when deployed in the military is that the team must work together to achieve the task.  The team from Amazon certainly lived up to this, in what was a particularly challenging circuit the lads undertook. Without their support team everything would have been so much more difficult to achieve, and it all went off without a hitch”.  Jim added: “Everyone in Erskine applauds their efforts and thanks all involved, the amount raised will make a huge difference to the Veterans in our Care.”
