ABF Soldiers’ Charity Shows Incredible Support for Erskine’s Veterans

ABF The Soldiers’ Charity has awarded an incredible grant of £150,000 towards the provision of nursing, dementia and palliative care for Army residents at Erskine.

The donation will enable us to continue with our delivery of enhanced care and support services for the Army family, including physiotherapy, speech and language therapy, a varied programme of daily activities, podiatry and hairdressing.  Such services play a crucial role in ensuring those we are trusted to care for can achieve the very best quality of life possible.

Commenting on the donation, Erskine Chief Executive Wing Commander Ian Cumming said:  “This wonderful support from ABF The Soldiers’ Charity is hugely appreciated and never more so than at this time, as we continue to adapt our day-to-day care practices in response to the coronavirus pandemic.  Daily life in our homes is very slowly nudging towards something slightly more comparable to life pre Covid-19.  However, we remain on high alert, with staff working hard to ensure our veterans are safe and well, through the use of social distancing measures, regular testing, barrier nursing and increased infection control procedures across all four Erskine Homes.  The most welcome donation will assist Erskine’s efforts to ensure our veterans are well protected from the many consequences of the pandemic and they continue to enjoy full and meaningful lives throughout the exceptional circumstances we find ourselves in.  Thank you, therefore, to everyone involved with ABF The Soldiers’ Charity for their ongoing and generous support of our work.”

Brigadier (Ret’d) Peter Monteith, Chief of Staff at ABF The Soldiers’ Charity added:  “We are delighted to award Erskine with a grant to help former soldiers who are residents in its care homes across Scotland.  This last year has been especially tough for the elderly and vulnerable and it is imperative we do all that we can to make sure we’re giving the best care to our veterans throughout their life.  We have no doubt that Erskine gives the best possible care home experience for them.  We’d also like to say a massive thank you to all the staff across Erskine’s four homes for everything that they do to support the Army family”.
