The annual Sporting Senior Games 2022, held by Scotland largest Veteran’s charity Erskine were a spectacular success. A dozen teams from care homes across Scotland competed for medals and the coveted John Bowman Trophy.
Each home held their own games, including javelin, basketball and curling, which were scored by independent judges. After two weeks of extremely competitive games, where every point was a prisoner, it was time to find out who the winners were!
The highly anticipated Awards ceremony was held at the Glynhill Hotel, Renfrew where over a 100 competitors gathered, along with their teams, to find out if they were to receive gold, silver or bronze medals. Or even to be the lucky winners of the magnificent John Bowman trophy named after an inspirational Veteran of The Erskine Home.
Presenting the medals was Erskine Ambassador and Paralympian Scott Meenagh who said: “Erskine’s Sporting Senior Games are a fantastic initiative, which involves the entire Erskine community coming together to get active, interact and compete against one another. As a Veteran, I have witnessed first-hand the life-changing affect that Erskine has on the lives of our nation’s Armed Forces community, and events like these are truly inspirational. I am honoured to support this year’s Games and would like to congratulate all of our worthy winners.”
This year the glittering John Bowman trophy went to Craigmair Care Home, Livingston. The triumphant team were over the moon to be presented with the trophy by John’s son Ian and to receive a range of gold silver and bronze medals.
The Games, which promote active living, wellbeing and quality of life among older people, were now over for another year and it was time to enjoy a delicious afternoon tea and some entertainment
Erskine would like to thank all who helped make the games such a success. However our biggest thanks goes to all our competitors each and every one a winner in our eyes.
