The Shadow of the Brave Falklands Memorial

The memorial sundial was built to honour the 255 British servicemen who lost their lives during the Falklands War.

Those who fought in the Falklands have very few dedicated memorials in Scotland to go. ‘The Shadow of the Brave’ is a place for remembrance and reflection for Veterans, their families and friends.

The sundial is made from Corten steel and stands at 4'9" high and 6'2" wide. The shadow created by kneeling soldier sweeps across the dots every single day from sunrise to sunset. The wording on the memorial is: The Shadow of the Brave. To commemorate the Falklands conflict 30th April 1982 – 30th July 1982. ‘At the going down of the sun and in the morning we will remember them’.

The memorial was unveiled at Erskine Veterans Village in June 2022 to mark the 40th Anniversary of the Falklands conflict.

To say Erskine changed my life is an understatement. It has allowed me to feed my family and hold my head up. It has saved my life.
